Vampire Runner - Update 02

We added some new features to Vampire Runner and also fixed some bugs.

Here is the change log:

  • Added the best 25 scores during the game (with blood marks).
  • Added an instructions screen showed before start playing.
  • Added pause screen to pause the game and/or return to main menu.
  • Changed game over screen to let you play again faster.
  • Changed main menu screen to show buttons to other screens.
  • Changed wall tiles to something nicer than a black rectangle
  • Changed the profile name to be limited to 15 characters.
  • Fixed a bug when showing highscores on small resolution devices

Vampire Runner - Update 01

We have published Vampire Runner on the Android Market and added a dedicated page on the Games list.

As introduced earlier, Vampire Runner is a Canabalt like game where you have to run as far as you can, in this case as you are a Vampire you have to run from the sun light.

Here are some game screenshots:

For now the game has some issues with of text location on small screen devices, I didn't want to scale everything because fonts look bad when scaling them but could be the only way of making things screen independent.

Some stuff to do to consider the game as completed in some way:

  • Fix the text location and color issues
  • Make nicer and more defined obstacles
  • Add a second background to give another idea of movement
  • Add some music and sounds could be great too

Super Flying Thing - Update 08

There is a new version of Super Flying Thing available, here is the change log:

  • Added replays to show how you died a lot of times :P, could be disabled if you don't want to watch it.
  • Changed the Splash screen to load all stuff once to improve performance during the game and to show loading progress.
  • Changed screen buttons, moved them up to avoid touching the ads when trying to touch a button.
  • Changed to avoid showing a title bar when the game started.
  • Changed Settings screen, moved controllers stuff to another screen.
  • More performance improvement.
  • Fixed (probably) the bug of OutOfMemoryException when the game was left open for a long time.

Super Flying Thing - Update 07

Hi everyone, we found a little tiny bug that made our game run different in different phones, so in some phones the ship would move way faster than in others, and that make the game a little too challenging (impossible to control, always dying, lots of fun).

The other big changes in this updates are some stuff trying to get the game to run better on phones that aren't the latest and greatest. For now the background will start disabled but you can enable it by going to the settings page (it looks really nice 🙂 but it is expensive to show in some phones, in the future we will try to test the phone or start with the background enabled and detect if it is an issue and suggest to the user that he can disable it to get better performance).

As always, a change log:

  • Fixed a bug making the game run different on different devices, some times almost not playable
  • Added settings to enable/disable background to improve game performance (disabled by default)
  • Added new controller named TargetController which allows you to specify the point the ship should go
  • Added a second background which moves with the camera giving a basic idea of parallax
  • Changed ship animation to have more frames to be smoother
  • Changed internal stuff to improve performance.
  • Changed the graphics (background, walls, color of portals)

Face Hunt v1.0.7 - Update

Another Face Hunt update on Android Market, changes this time are:

  • Improved high scores.
  • Changed fonts for high scores and tutorial.
  • Changed background to look a bit nicer.
  • Added wake lock to avoid application to sleep when playing.
  • Modified default name for guest profiles to be guest-xxxxx instead undefinded-xxxxx.

We know it looks like a small change, but the release is related with some updates we made to our high scores system. We will talk about it in future post.

Improving how we show our games

Some people told us that our games where hard to find on the blog so we are working on making finding them easier. In order to do that, we first created a new button Games to let you find our games easily. It should be on the right sidebar, do you like it?

Also, as we have a lot of games right now, updating the Games page manually is quite annoying. To improve that, we created a basic WordPress plug-in named wp-games-gallery which creates a simple gallery of games based on each game page meta data. So now, each time we create a new game page, the games list should be updated properly.

Face Hunt v1.0.6 - Update

We have updated Face Hunt on Android Market again, adding the following changes:

  • Added remote highscores with a Highscores screen.
  • You can now specify your profile username on main menu screen.
  • Fixed some resolution bugs when showing Tutorial text on small and medium devices.
  • Red faces now do no damage when they are invulnerables but when vulnerables they do 2x previous damage.
  • Red faces status change times are random now.
  • Added new friendly white face which will recover your life for a while, but it will do a lot of damage if you kill it.

And here a list of probably next stuff to work on:

  • Local high scores to let you record your scores even if you are internet-less
  • Different high scores categories like daily/weekly/monthly/all like Jumping Slime does.
  • Power ups like explode all enemies or recover health, etc.
  • See how we can add some Ads to the game

Face Hunt v1.0.5 - Update

We have updated Face Hunt on Android Market adding some new stuff to try to improve fun when playing it. The next video shows the changes:

Here is the change log:

  • Added new types of faces, a green one that moves random and a red one which becomes immortal for a while.
  • Added a Tutorial to teach you about each type of enemy
  • Now instead having two lives which you lose when a face disappears, you have a health bar which is reduced while faces are alive, so you have to kill them quick in order to survive longer.
  • Modified the game to use physics so the enemies now hit each other
  • Added particle effects when you hit an enemy
  • Added menu screen to choose between different game modes.

Face Hunt - Introduction

We are developing an Android game using Libgdx named Face Hunt. It is only a test to learn a bit about Libgdx and Android's world. Right now, the game will work best on 480x800 devices.

The game is about killing smilies by touching them :D, here is a video:
